    Chairman
    Bryan Pfohl is the Chairman of Carolina Sunrock LLC and Sunrock Group Holdings Corporation. The Sunrock Group is a supplier of construction aggregates, ready mixed concrete, and hot mix asphalt in the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan area of North Carolina. The company also provides a variety of highway heavy contracting services to its customers. Sunrock and its predecessor companies have been a privately held, family business for 75 years and is now entering a third generation of management by the Pfohl Family. Bryan, second generation, has been Chairman since 1980 and actively involved in the business for all of his adult life. In addition to his contributions at Sunrock, Bryan has been very involved in the business and construction materials communities. He is the past president of the North Carolina Aggregates Association, a former Chairman and Board Member of the Kerr Tar Council of Governments, and he has participated in other community and economic development organizations over the years. Bryan has been married to his wife, Mary Lynn, for 50 years and together they have two grown daughters, Katherine and Elisabeth, both of whom are involved with Sunrock. He and his family live in Raleigh, North Carolina. Away from the office and quarries Bryan enjoys traveling to Europe, and hunting quail and pheasant, and spending time with his four grandchildren.

    The Senior Leadership Team of Sunrock

    Zach Satterwhite
    COO
    Zach is Sunrock's Chief Operating Officer. He is originally from Henderson, NC and has over 18 years of experience in the construction industry. Zach began his career with Carolina Sunrock in 2006 and has held multiple positions within the company. Zach is responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the organization. He also has oversight of the sales department. Zach is a graduate of UNC Greensboro. He enjoys spending time with his wife Susan and their four daughters.

    John Barrett
    VP & GM
    John oversees all facets of the paving and construction operations for Carolina Sunrock focusing on long range planning, project management and business development. John joined Sunrock in 2012 with more than 20 years’ experience in the asphalt and road construction industry. Prior to Sunrock, he was a partner in Barrett, Irvin and Jordan Construction, which was acquired by Sunrock to become their Contracting Group. John has held many positions in his 30-year infrastructure career including Project Manager, Owner, Estimator, Superintendent, Foreman and Equipment Operator. John earned a BS degree in Geology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1985, holds a NC Heavy Highway General Contractors license, represents Sunrock on the CAPA Board of Directors and is active in NAPA and CAGC.

    Jeremy Lee
    GM - Sunrock Canada
    Jeremy is the General Manager for Sunrock Canada. He is originally from the Uxbridge Ontario area and has over 25 years experience in the construction and aggregate industry. Jeremy joined the Sunrock Canada team in April 2022. Jeremy’s responsibilities include sales and operations for the Canadian business unit. He enjoys spending time with his wife Jennifer and coaching his three boys in baseball when not at Sunrock.

    Ryan Emo
    VP of Mining & Central Services
    Ryan Emo is the VP of Mining & Central Services for Sunrock. He is originally from upstate NY and has over 25 years of experience in the aggregates industry. Ryan joined the team at Sunrock in January of 2017 as the Manager of Aggregate Production. In April of 2018 Ryan was promoted to his current role where he now oversees our 3 quarries, recycle, plant maintenance, and mobile equipment divisions. When he's outside of Sunrock, Ryan likes to spend time on the lake, hunting, and camping with his wife Theresa and his 2 children.

    Alex Culpepper
    VP of Corporate Business Development
    Alex Culpepper is the VP of Corporate Business Development for Sunrock. Alex grew up in North Carolina and attended UNC Charlotte where he received his Bachelor of Science in Geology. He then went on to complete his graduate studies at East Carolina University and received his Masters of Science in Geology. As a licensed geologist in North Carolina, Alex brings experience in a wide range of areas including hydrogeology, environmental assessment, permitting, and site remediation. Alex joined Sunrock in 2019 to support the technical and regulatory aspects of ongoing environmental projects. In his current role, he is responsible for market research, product development, and working with the Executive Team on strategic business development opportunities. Outside of Sunrock, Alex and his wife Sara, and their two young daughters enjoy spending time outdoors and exploring new restaurants.

    Tracy Davis
    Director of Environmental Compliance
    Tracy E. Davis, PE was named the Director of Environmental Compliance in February of 2022. He is originally from Ohio and served for over 30 years in state government, receiving the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for his dedication to serving NC. He has held numerous positions in the NC Dept. of Environmental Quality, Division of Land Resources, including Mining Engineer, Chief Engineer, and Division Director. Prior to Sunrock, he worked as an environmental consultant for four years. Tracy is responsible for compliance with environmental regulations and permits for all US & Canada operations. Outside of Sunrock, Tracy enjoys spending time with family and friends in Emerald Isle.

    Vasyl Shymonyak
    Director Quality Control
    Vasyl “Basil” Shymonyak brings over 20 years of quality control experience in aggregate, concrete and asphalt products to his role as Director Quality Control. Vasyl ensures that the organization’s products and services are in compliance with the company’s quality requirements, in addition to complying with customer and regulatory requirements for quality, safety, and reliability. He also directs quality-related activities in conjunction with Operations, Production, Engineering, Sales, Contracting and any other department/function that affects the quality of the organization’s goods or services. Vasyl began working with Carolina Sunrock in 1998. He is married with 3 children. Originally from Ukraine he moved to Raleigh area in search of better opportunities for him and his family. Outside of Carolina Sunrock, Vasyl enjoys spending time with his family, cooking food, traveling, and working around the house.
